The MIT (Maintenance-in-Training) Program offers participants (age 18+) the opportunity to learn the inner workings of Unicamp including the care and use of tools, and skills for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, & landscaping. In addition to valuable experience, participants receive delicious food and accommodations. Meal preparation is a welcome contribution to the program.

While MIT welcomes those who are only available for a few days or a week or two, a weekly stipend of $150 is available to participants who commit to the full 4 weeks of the program.

The focus is on the ethics of team work and the value of community in a supportive learning environment. Participants are given the opportunity to learn the opening, workings and maintenance of Unicamp from the Property Manager’s perspective.

Early MIT applicants will be given priority consideration for appropriate summer employment opportunities.

Projects spearheaded by MIT in the past include:

  • Building a dock;
  • Installing a beach shelter;
  • Installation of hot water in dorms;
  • Renovation of Summerhill cottage;
  • Widening Unicamp’s access road;
  • Building the dining hall deck roof.
